Another Week of Racing
In many ways, the week started like every other race week. The team checked caster, camber and toe, scraped tires, went over the car, bolted everything and worked through the usual preparation. This time, though, they were ahead of schedule. The #18 was loaded in the trailer a day early, giving Anthony the chance to spend Friday night at Stafford before heading to the Speedbowl on Saturday.
Saturday started well. The car felt good in practice, and Anthony was comfortable with what the team had brought to the track.
Then came the heat race.
Given the choice between starting on the pole or taking the outside, Anthony chose the outside. He pushed hard, made it work and drove the #18 to a heat race win.
Fourteen Cars. One Checkered Flag.
When the green flag dropped on the 14-car feature, Anthony once again found himself racing hard for the lead. Anthony spent several laps door-to-door battling for the top spot. It was hard, competitive racing, with both drivers giving each other the room to race.
Eventually, Anthony pulled ahead and put the #18 out front.
Getting there was one thing. Staying there was another.
Multiple restarts gave the field another shot at him, and each time Anthony had to do it all over again. He hit his marks, got strong launches and held onto the lead.
For everyone watching from the Raccio Racing pit, it was a nail-biter.
For Anthony, it was the race he had been working toward.
He drove a strong, clean race all night and, after 22 previous starts at the Speedbowl, Anthony Raccio took the checkered flag for his first career feature win.
