After a week off, Anthony and the Raccio Racing team were ready to get back on track at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.
It was a two-tire week, with the track determining how many new tires teams are allowed to purchase each race week. The team prepped the car for practice and the heat race, but throughout the night, the tires just didn't seem to be working the way everyone had hoped.
Anthony started the feature in 14th and worked his way forward to finish 12th.
But the biggest moment of the night came after the checkered flag.
As Anthony was driving off the track, the steering rack broke, leaving him unable to turn the car to the right. After realizing something was wrong, he drove past the exit gate, backed up and took a couple of tries to maneuver the car enough to get safely off the track.
It was one of those moments that quickly puts a race result into perspective.
We are incredibly grateful that the steering held together throughout the feature, that nothing happened while Anthony was racing at speed, and most importantly, that he was safe.
The team is already working to get everything repaired and ready for the next race — thankful that Anthony is okay and the car came home in one piece.
Sometimes a 12th-place finish feels like a win. ❤️🏁
